JADED REGRET Feature Review Tour - L.L. Collins

♫ Sentenced (Jaded Regret, #1)

THE BAD BOY: I’m Johnny. An ex-con with a bad attitude and a controlling demeanor that somehow made the women flock to my bed but never my heart. It was unavailable for possession.

THE TEMPTATION: She was just supposed to be a two day hookup. But one taste of her and I knew I was in danger of never getting enough. She had her own demons to contend with, and dealing with my own was hard enough. I won't allow temptation to take control of me.

THE SENTENCE: I'd given myself a life sentence a long time ago, and she made me want things I wouldn't allow myself to have. Giving into it just might destroy us both.

My Review:

Sentenced (Jaded Regret #1)Sentenced by L.L. Collins

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Damn!! This was a hard book to read because of the topics it covered. There's abuse, promiscuity, and a whole lot of anger. But despite how difficult it was, this book held me firmly in its clutches from beginning to end.

Johnny was a manwhore. Not the classic one that you can't help but love. Where you think it's pretty neat to see the manwhore fall to his feet in praise of the one.

Except it's not. Because Johnny took his manwhoring to the extreme. To a level that hasn't even been freaking invented yet! Luckily the reader gets his POV, which provides insight into the reasons for his behaviour. So although we can't condone it, we can understand it. He's masking a lot of pain and just wants his demons to shut the heck up. He was hard to like yet somehow very easy to get.

Bex was a huge bish. No really. I'm being serious. That was what her character's personality was supposed to come off ass. On the brink of stardom, she was the leader of the band Jaded Regret. With her POV, we get an opportunity to see that her utter rudeness is a mask as well. She was also hiding her lack of recovery from a huge and devastating loss. Somehow, she and Johnny seemed to be the perfect match. They clicked right away. You could hear that ish from the pages lol. And suddenly, two people with bottled up pain and emotions, let someone else in.

There were a few things that bothered me, but the biggest issue I had was the fact that Johnny had sex with someone else AFTER already having had sex with Bex. They were on a timeout but still. I'm not down with the H doing ANYTHING with ANYONE after the h is involved in the story. Sorry. That may just be me. It was just really gross and unnecessary. The story could have carried on without it IMO.

Regardless, there was a lot of hot sex between the main characters. At first, that's all they were. But those strings man. They catch on to everything.

Once these two got their ish together, it was magic. This story really did have a nice epilogue.

Recommended to lovers of rock band stories and to those who love internal struggles with beautiful rewards

BEAU has never known a good life, only the torment that lives inside his head every day. The only way to block out the darkness that shrouds him is through the rhythmic beat of his drums. Knowing what happens when he opens up to anyone, Beau buries his pain deep inside, keeping it all to himself.

When she meets Beau, it starts as a challenge to get through to him but quickly turns into much more than either of them bargained for.

TOGETHER, they are mismatched, ill-fated, and COMBUSTIBLE. But when their connection is challenged by the collision of past, present, and future,
will they be snared by love... or circumstances?

My Review:

Snared (Jaded Regret, #2)Snared by L.L. Collins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay so... this book was freaking phenomenal!! I'm not sure if I can pinpoint which part(s) I really connected with, but on a whole, I enjoyed every bit of this story. I didn't know what to expect when I went into this. I had just read about Johnny's whoring ways that ultimately stopped when he found love with Bex. Was Beau an undercover manwhore? What was lurking behind his onstage persona? I knew he had to have demons because that seems to be the trend of this series.

I knew that this story would be well-written and emotionally charged. But this story was so much more than that.

There's an Author Note that warns "Beau may wiggle his way into your heart and won't let go." Beau did more than wiggle. He stomped, trampled, invaded and conquered!!

Although this story touches on sensitive topics, such as mental illness, abuse, neglect, abandonment and suicide, it also covered finding self-worth, self-awareness, conquering doubts and fears, overcoming past trauma, and allowing the beauty of hope and love into your very soul.

Beau broke my heart repeatedly and then picked up the pieces and put it back together again. His name was his true essence. He was such a beautiful character to get to know. As the reader, we witness his distress, panic, dread and horror as his past influences his present. We also get to see him triumph over his anxieties and attempt and achieve his potential as a man of worth. A man worthy of a future and of love. April was also a pleasure to get to know. She was beautiful, selfless, generous, nurturing and kind. She provided an incredible counterbalance to Beau's darkness.

This is the second book I've read from LL Collins and I expect to make my way through her entire body of work (her oeuvre).

Be prepared to have your heart strings pulled and for the strong potential of tears!

♫ Hartstrings (Jaded Regret, #3)

Tanner Hart, the All-American bad boy bass guitarist of Jaded Regret, has one motto— play women’s bodies like he does the strings of his guitar— hard, in tune, and giving it his all until the show is over. The only strings he wants attached to him are the ones he plays on the stage.

He has quite the reputation, even with his own band, and he likes it that way. It keeps the truth of who he really is locked deep inside. But there's so much more to him than anyone really knows…

Now that he’s successful, he can afford to find out what really happened to the only girl who’s ever held his heart. The only thing is…will he really want to know the truth?

When Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Shepard finds herself in a situation she’s been in too many times before, she expects to do what she’s always done— cover it up, accept the apologies, and move on. She knows trying to get out is futile. What she doesn’t expect is for the world famous Tanner Hart to burst into her life like a knight in sexy armor.

When their lives collide and hearts get involved, can Tanner keep his hartstrings from being tangled up in his past, or can he make a new kind of music... with his heart?

My Review:

Hartstrings (Jaded Regret, #3)Hartstrings by L.L. Collins

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

L.L. Collins really knows how to create a tortured hero. I've met three of them so far and I've fallen for each one of them.

I just wanna squeeze 'em. Three men with tortured pasts that ruled their present. Thankfully Johnny and Beau found their HEAs with Bex and April. I knew it was only a matter of time for Tanner and I couldn't wait to see what the author had in store for his story.

Hopefully this isn't a surprise, but Tanner came from a physically abusive background. At 18yo, he changed his name and reinvented himself as Tanner Hart, bass player and manwhore extraordinaire. His reputation among the ladies was solidified back in Snared, but this book showed a different side to him. A side that was kind, considerate and protective. At least when it came to Mackenzie.

Mackenzie found herself stuck in an abusive relationship with her high school sweetheart. Although her thought process was very frustrating (i.e. "He loves me" and "He's the only one who'll ever love me")...

Finally enough was enough. With Tanner's never-ending support, she found the strength to leave her abuser.

This book had a bit more suspense than the others and focused less on Mac and Tanner's physical relationship and more on their emotional connection. I love the friends to lovers trope and it was handled exceptionally well in this story.

I see there will be a fourth book, Exposed: A Jaded Regret Novel. Is this finally Natalie's story? And will it involve the mysterious Kai?

Recommended to those who adore closure with their romance
